Vote Earth! Earth Hour : 28 March 2009

On 28 March, it is either you VOTE EARTH by switching off your lights for one hour or you vote global warming by leaving your lights on. With such an obvious line on who's the bad party, M & I are going to VOTE EARTH! This is a good opportunity for us to show that we care.

WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

In order to reach 1 billion votes, I would like to tag a few of my friends whom i know they will be more willing to do this post on their blog. They are: Marzie, Janice, Emila, Rozella, Jackie, LJ, Shemah, Sabrina, Twinks, Metz, Bono, GG, NAFA and Enchie.

Do you know that individuals who are over 65 years old are commonly afflicted with Alzheimer disease? Each individual experiences the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in different ways. The common recognized symptom is memory loss. Often this symptom is mistaken as a form of stress. That's mean if the world's natural resources were evenly distributed, our children or/ and grandchildren will only have 25% of the resources per capita that people in 1950 had.

If we intend to leave our children and grandchildren with the same standard of living we have enjoyed, we must preserve the foundation of that standard of living. We save for college educations, orthodontia, and weddings, but what about saving clean air, water, fuel sources and soil for future generations?"

We do not need be a soldier, aggresively marching down the battle field, to help our Mother Nature. Just be yourself and go green in your daily activities. Here are 10 ways how we can go green:

1. Crank the knob
According to the National Environment Agency in Singapore, air-conditioned buildings need only to set their thermostat between 23°C and 25°C. Anything lower is a waste as you simply won't feel a difference in temperature. For every degree you adjust, you spare the air 500 pounds of carbon dioxide.

2. Sweat the small stuff
According to http://ecofabulous.blogs.com, if every worker used one less staple, we'd save up to 330,000 tons of steel a day. That's some heavy metal! Switch to a staple-less stapler, available at stationery shops, which folds paper to bind it.

3. Clean green
Household cleaning products give off chemical emissions that aren't only harmful to the planet, but to you too. Swap yours for the eco-friendly and completely non-toxic Shaklee Get Clean products.

4. Age your driving style
Don't speed: going 90km/h instead of 110km/h slashes fuel consumption by up to 25 per cent. If your car is fitted with a cruise control option, use it when you're driving on teh highway to maintain a steady speed and save on fuel.

5. Eat closer to home
Transporting produce across oceans or by air is amajor contributor to pollution. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation reported in 2006 that 18 per cen of the world's greenhouse gas emissions were due to the international meat industry. Choose locally farmed produce and the demand for imported stuff will fall, along with CO2 levels.

6. Stash your trash
Recycle. Yes, it's an obvious one and you would think that after hearing it so many times, we'd be non-stop recycling machines by now, but there are still so may of us who aren't doing it! We chuck 19,000 tons of waste everyday, enough to fill 36 Petronas Twin Towers in a year! About 95 per cent of the waste ends up in landfills, which we're quickly running out of, and who knows how much of it could have been recycled?

7. Be a cone head
The next time you feel like eating ice-cream, ask for a cone, not cup. That way, you can eat the whole 'packaging' and there's no paper cup or plastic spoon to toss out.

8. Say no to the machine
Don't ask for ATM receipts. If every one in the USA refused theirs, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator 15 times. Malaysians would create a roll more than 330 million feet long, going round the equator two and a half times.

9. Think natural and cool
Using cold water to do the laundry saves 50 per cent more energy than using hot water. To dry, hang them out in the sun - the heat is a natural disinfectant - and you'll again be saving energy, as an automatic dryer uses an average of six per cent of the household electricity.

10. Make sure your fashion is green.
We're not going to say stop dry cleaning your clothes, because that's just an impossible request. The next time you do, however, tell the cleaners to skip the plastic. Also, find a greener cleaner - Pressto dry cleaners use biodegradeable stain removers and detergents, and theor machines are eco-friendly too, designed by an in-house team of engineers and technicians. There are outlets in Sri Hartamas (opposite Cat's Whiskers boutique) and Bangsar (Jalan Maarof).

Help Make June Survivor Months!

It's been a year since the last June Survivor Month in which 6 millions clicks were needed. This year, The Breast Cancer Site will need 8 millions clicks.

Rozella has tagged me to raise the awareness about Breat Cancer. Her story goes like this...

A very long time ago my grandaunt Sylvia on my mother's side passed away because of breast cancer. Recently, our family had another scare, but this time it was on my father's side.

The doctors found six lumps the size of raisins in the right breast of his youngest sister. One of the lump was cancerous.

The good news for her was that they found it early. She had regular mammograms and that is how they detected it. The bad news is that a lot of women out there who do not have health insurance and cannot afford to get tested. That is why there is an increase in fatalities related to this disease - a lot of women find out way too late to be saved.

You can help the lives of many women by spreading the word about The Breast Cancer Site and by clicking the pink button as many times as you can. A Tribute To The Late Nurin Jazlin

I am sure many of you have heard of Nurin Jazlin. What have happened to her was unexpected and was of inhuman act. I was terribly disturbed by this tragedy and I hope that the person who's responsible for this will be brought forward and may justice prevailed.

In our times of darkness, children are the ones who will brighten us up. No matter what ordeals we have to endure in our daily lives, we know that we can overcome them the moment we set eyes on children. Their innocence and purity in them will always give us a sense of peacefulness and calm that is beyond words. And it goes without saying that life would be meaningless without seeing them smile, hearing them laugh and cry, and feeling their small and flawlessly gentle hands that want to reach out to us.

Yet, there are some who show no empathy and sensitivity towards these beautiful souls. Worse still, they would dunk themselves into physical violence and cruelty towards the children without even thinking twice. Such acts can deem someone to be worse than an animal, because even an animal has compassion and love for its young.

What is going on with this world? Why must such horrid acts be carried out? Why do these people ever exist in this world?

Please take this time to read this special message from us, and show your utmost support and sympathy towards the family of the late Nurin Jazlin, who passed away tragically and brutally at the age of only eight. Little Nurin Jazlin’s body was discovered in a gym bag on 17th September, one month after she was abducted.

Upon the discovery, she was seen to be in the most horrifying state ever. Her hair was short and curled up, when it was originally straight and long. Her body was pale and badly bruised from head to toe, and there were traces of foreign objects like brinjal and cucumber found in the virginal area of her body

Parents of the deceased took a long time to acknowledge her death, but eventually did after all the thorough DNA tests had been carried out by the forensics department. Her body was finally buried on 21st September. Her father, Jazimin Abdul Jalil, had expressed his sorrow towards this tragedy, stating that whoever who caused her death was not a human being, but rather, an animal



This was the result of an outrage of modesty (See Picture Above) caused by a man of age between 35 and 40, who was thought to be someone who enjoyed torturing people, particularly children. Along with him was a 23-year-old lady, who was apparently his partner in crime. The lady had been found and called for questioning by the Malaysian authorities, whereas the man has yet to be found. Hence, we are urging all of you here to play your part in finding this serial killer cum sexual offender and ensuring that justice is served to the deceased and her family.

If you know of the culprits’ whereabouts, keep us informed immediately, or directly inform her uncle, Jasni Abdul Jalil, via his blog, which he had specially created as a form of dedication to her.

Over the years, we have heard of children’s lives being taken away due to the evil doings of heartless adults. Nurin’s death was one of the most gruesome and tragic deaths that made many of us shocked, despaired and furious. Do you want more children to die in the hands of these sadistic people? Do you still wish to hear such saddening news of child abuse?Then let us do our part right away! Together we can make this world a better place for the little ones. Let us all join hand in hand and put a stop to such cruelty towards them once and for all! Cheque Clearance in Half Day

Yes!!! Starting from August, Malaysians will not have to wait several days for cheques to clear anymore. Thanks to Bank Negara whom will be directing all banks to comply with the paperless Cheque Truncation and Conversion System (CTCS), cheques will be cleared within half day upon banking in either at a bank counter or self-service kiosk.

CTCS is expected to be in full operation by early next year.

I think this is a beneficial move to all Malaysians especially businesswoman like me ^^. However, i think everything will have their pro & con list. It is just whether more pros or more cons.
Pro: We get our payment faster. Con: We lose our money faster. ><

How does it works?
With it, the cheques are scanned and images are transmitted into a bank's system. Bank personnel will verify the cheques on computer terminals.

The images of the verified cheques will then be transmitted to Bank Negara, and they will be cleared within 12 hours, said Tan, who spoke at the Bank Tech Asia 2007 conference here.

"If the cheque is deposited after banking hours, it will be cleared by 2pm the next day."
Images of the cleared cheques will also be stored in a central image archive operated by Bank Negara.

Tan said the system is already being used in the United States.

I was surprised to read the newspaper today that highlights what I've posted month ago. The AppleGuava fruit that I've been asking for your opinion whether its fake or real is proved to be fake. Sold openly in Cameron Highlands, this guava-apple hybrids was said to posed a potential health threat to people because of its artificial colouring.

Internet ah-Longs

As i was browsing through the blogs at blogger, i bumped into this blog which is offering peoples at united states loans and cash advance. Their website sounded like our local ah-long, except that they are more hi-tech and do not decorate our walls, postbox or gates with stickers.

I followed a link in their blog and it lead me to a website with a form to fill up for applying loan or cash advance. I am not very sure what's their interest, i dare not click on the form. One particular sentence caught my attention: No Embarrassment, Strictly Confidential we are here to assist you get the money you need fast.

"OMG!!!" i exclaimed. Sooner, our local ah-longs will do the same thing too. Especially since the strict enforcement for compulsory registration for user of prepaid mobile line.
