Vote Earth! Earth Hour : 28 March 2009

On 28 March, it is either you VOTE EARTH by switching off your lights for one hour or you vote global warming by leaving your lights on. With such an obvious line on who's the bad party, M & I are going to VOTE EARTH! love This is a good opportunity for us to show that we care.

WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

In order to reach 1 billion votes, I would like to tag a few of my friends whom i know they will be more willing to do this post on their blog. They are: Marzie, Janice, Emila, Rozella, Jackie, LJ, Shemah, Sabrina, Twinks, Metz, Bono, GG, NAFA and Enchie.

Peeps, remember to VOTE EARTH first before posting about it. Register here!

Thank you for joining me, peeps! *Group Hugz* peluk cium

World AIDS Day 2008

I've just read about the World AIDS Day from Anny. She said, "Let us all end HIV prejudice. People living with HIV should be treated with respect and dignity and as equal citizens. Let's help shed some light today." I couldn't resist but to join in her calling for help.

More people than ever before are living with HIV in the UK and new infections continue. HIV is a serious long-term condition and people living with HIV often face discrimination. Whatever your HIV status, there is a role you can play in ending HIV prejudice and stopping the spread of HIV.

Debbie's Crafty Heart

I used to spend alot of time making greeting cards for my families & friends. But my interest fades away as i grow older. It seems like I just couldn't find that much time anymore now.

Making a gift for someone you love could really light up someone's heart. It shows your sincerity & determination. So for this coming Christmas, i think i might just do something for my friends. That's why I am taking the pledge to buy or make handmade this season, and hope you guys will do the same too! :)

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

At this time, Debbie's Crafty Heart Online Store comes in real handy. In there, you can find lots of lovely & cute ribbons, embellishments, flowers and other craft items you may need. The pricing are reasonable too! :)

If you are not into making handy crafts, how about winning a handy craft? This lovely container was made by none other than the owner of Crafty Heart, Debbie herself.

It's actually a Lady's Choice mayonnaise jar, thoroughly cleaned and rinsed with hot water to remove its label. So it's clean, don't worry! :) What's in the jar, you ask? Lots of scrapbooking/cardmaking goodies, of course! There are a few packs of silk flowers, just like the ones I'm selling on my store. There are other embellishments such as metal flowers and butterflies, and two packs of assorted brads! I've decorated the jar with ribbons and Sticko Vellum Hearts stickers. The whole jar is worth no less than RM20! :)

How To Win:
Just tell me why you want to win this jar in the comment section.
The winner will be picked via random.org. The winner will be announced on Monday, 1st December 2008.

Let's say YES to handmade, shall we! :)

Pink Sisterhood

...October month to raise awareness on Breast Cancer...
I've just been tagged by Marzie to join her in the Pink Sisterhood. Even tho' there's a long list of tags awaiting me to complete, I'm gonna to do this one first, simply because I support Pink for October. Moreover this tag is to be done in October month to raise awareness on Breast Cancer. I am sure those whom I owed tags to wouldn't mind my decision, rite! :)

Understanding Breast Cancer:

The breast is a gland designed to make milk. The lobules in the breast make the milk, which then drains through the ducts to the nipple.

Like all parts of your body, the cells in your breasts usually grow and then rest in cycles. The periods of growth and rest in each cell are controlled by genes in the cell's nucleus. The nucleus is like the control room of each cell. When your genes are in good working order, they keep cell growth under control. But when your genes develop an abnormality, they sometimes lose their ability to control the cycle of cell growth and rest.
Breast cancer is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells.

Cancer has the potential to break through normal breast tissue barriers and spread to other parts of the body. While cancer is always caused by a genetic "abnormality" (a "mistake" in the genetic material), only 5–10% of cancers are inherited from your mother or father. Instead, 90% of breast cancers are due to genetic abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general.

While there are things every woman can do to help her body stay as healthy as possible (such as eating a balanced diet, not smoking, minimizing stress, and exercising regularly), breast cancer is never anyone's fault. Feeling guilty, or telling yourself that breast cancer happened because of something you or anyone else did, is counterproductive.

AGP Going Pinkier For October

October month have been known as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many organisations and blogs are going pink in October to help raise awareness and funds for this commonly known decease. AGP, like previous year, will be helping to raise awareness by going pinkier for October and is a proud participant #644 at Pink For October 2008. AGP will also be clicking daily or as often as possible on the pink button [right] to help funds free mammograms to those women of low income, uninsured and working poor women through the vital work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

For us women, we can do our own regular check-up at home.
[if you are on my main page, click on button located below this post to view/ hide article/s]

Breast Self Exam (BSE)

"Try to get in the habit of doing a breast self-examination once a month to familiarize yourself with how your breasts normally look and feel. Examine yourself several days after your period ends, when your breasts are least likely to be swollen and tender. If you are no longer having periods, choose a day that's easy to remember, such as the first or last day of the month.

Don't panic if you think you feel a lump. Most women have some lumps or lumpy areas in their breasts all the time. Eight out of ten breast lumps that are removed are benign, non-cancerous.

Breasts tend to have different "neighborhoods." The upper, outer area—near your armpit—tends to have the most prominent lumps and bumps. The lower half of your breast can feel like a sandy or pebbly beach. The area under the nipple can feel like a collection of large grains. Another part might feel like a lumpy bowl of oatmeal.

What's important is that you get to know the look and feel of YOUR breasts' various neighborhoods. Does something stand out as different from the rest (like a rock on a sandy beach)? Has anything changed? Bring to the attention of your doctor any changes in your breasts that:
-last over a full month's cycle, OR
-seem to get worse or more obvious over time

Knowing how your breasts usually look and feel may also help you avoid needless biopsies—a procedure in which the doctor takes a small sample of breast tissue and examines it under a microscope."

Sharing The Love

I am proud to announce that i've been awarded with the most meaningful award by two of my very special friends: Liza & Emila.

Thank you for thinking of me, Liza & Emila! *mmuaks*

Sharing The Love

This award is extra special because Crystal created it in honor of the donor who saved her sons life. Her son Noah had to have a heart transplant when he was just over a month old. This award is supposed to help raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

So, here are the rules Crystal gave:

“The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

As you may have recently seen on my side bar, I have finally created a custom blog award!! I have wanted to do this for a long time but never came up with something that “fit”. I didn’t want just anything. It had to be something that meant something to me. And what could mean more than Sharing the Love by giving you pieces of my heart??

So I created this award in Honor Of The Donor That Saved Noah’s Life. I share this award with those of you whose love and friendship have enriched my life and made my world a better place.

I hope by passing this award around the blogging world we can all help raise awareness of the need for Organ Donation.”
And now it's my great pleasure to pass this award to the following wonderful peoples, just because they have make me smile, laugh, cheer me up & make my days. I am so glad to have you guys with me and A Great Pleasure. Thank you so much!! Love & Hugs!! :)

Go Green With AGP!

Hello peeps!

"Do you know that the world population is expanding at a mind-boggling rate? Yes, it is. It is estimated that the population will go up to 9 billions by 2050. That's mean if the world's natural resources were evenly distributed, our children or/ and grandchildren will only have 25% of the resources per capita that people in 1950 had.

If we intend to leave our children and grandchildren with the same standard of living we have enjoyed, we must preserve the foundation of that standard of living. We save for college educations, orthodontia, and weddings, but
what about saving clean air, water, fuel sources and soil for future generations?"

-source taken from http://www.gogreeninitiative.org/content/WhyGoGreen/

We do not need be a soldier, aggresively marching down the battle field, to help our Mother Nature. Just be yourself and go green in your daily activities. Here are 10 ways how we can go green:

1. Crank the knob
According to the National Environment Agency in Singapore, air-conditioned buildings need only to set their thermostat between 23°C and 25°C. Anything lower is a waste as you simply won't feel a difference in temperature. For every degree you adjust, you spare the air 500 pounds of carbon dioxide.

2. Sweat the small stuff
According to http://ecofabulous.blogs.com, if every worker used one less staple, we'd save up to 330,000 tons of steel a day. That's some heavy metal! Switch to a staple-less stapler, available at stationery shops, which folds paper to bind it.

3. Clean green
Household cleaning products give off chemical emissions that aren't only harmful to the planet, but to you too. Swap yours for the eco-friendly and completely non-toxic Shaklee Get Clean products.

4. Age your driving style
Don't speed: going 90km/h instead of 110km/h slashes fuel consumption by up to 25 per cent. If your car is fitted with a cruise control option, use it when you're driving on teh highway to maintain a steady speed and save on fuel.

5. Eat closer to home
Transporting produce across oceans or by air is amajor contributor to pollution. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation reported in 2006 that 18 per cen of the world's greenhouse gas emissions were due to the international meat industry. Choose locally farmed produce and the demand for imported stuff will fall, along with CO2 levels.

6. Stash your trash
Recycle. Yes, it's an obvious one and you would think that after hearing it so many times, we'd be non-stop recycling machines by now, but there are still so may of us who aren't doing it! We chuck 19,000 tons of waste everyday, enough to fill 36 Petronas Twin Towers in a year! About 95 per cent of the waste ends up in landfills, which we're quickly running out of, and who knows how much of it could have been recycled?

7. Be a cone head
The next time you feel like eating ice-cream, ask for a cone, not cup. That way, you can eat the whole 'packaging' and there's no paper cup or plastic spoon to toss out.

8. Say no to the machine
Don't ask for ATM receipts. If every one in the USA refused theirs, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator 15 times. Malaysians would create a roll more than 330 million feet long, going round the equator two and a half times.

9. Think natural and cool
Using cold water to do the laundry saves 50 per cent more energy than using hot water. To dry, hang them out in the sun - the heat is a natural disinfectant - and you'll again be saving energy, as an automatic dryer uses an average of six per cent of the household electricity.

10. Make sure your fashion is green.
We're not going to say stop dry cleaning your clothes, because that's just an impossible request. The next time you do, however, tell the cleaners to skip the plastic. Also, find a greener cleaner - Pressto dry cleaners use biodegradeable stain removers and detergents, and theor machines are eco-friendly too, designed by an in-house team of engineers and technicians. There are outlets in Sri Hartamas (opposite Cat's Whiskers boutique) and Bangsar (Jalan Maarof).

-taken from FEMALE magazine JUNE issue.

Isn't it easy? If each of us play a small role in helping our Mother Nature, I am sure our children or/ and grandchildren will be able to enjoy the same or similar standard of living we had today. So, why not we start today, this very moment! Let's Go Green, shall we?

For start, i would like to invite all my blogger friends to join me. Help Make June Survivor Months!

It's been a year since the last June Survivor Month in which 6 millions clicks were needed. This year, The Breast Cancer Site will need 8 millions clicks.

Rozella has tagged me to raise the awareness about Breat Cancer. Her story goes like this...

A very long time ago my grandaunt Sylvia on my mother's side passed away because of breast cancer. Recently, our family had another scare, but this time it was on my father's side.

The doctors found six lumps the size of raisins in the right breast of his youngest sister. One of the lump was cancerous.

The good news for her was that they found it early. She had regular mammograms and that is how they detected it. The bad news is that a lot of women out there who do not have health insurance and cannot afford to get tested. That is why there is an increase in fatalities related to this disease - a lot of women find out way too late to be saved.

You can help the lives of many women by spreading the word about The Breast Cancer Site and by clicking the pink button as many times as you can. If The Breast Cancer Site receives 8 million clicks on the pink button in June, their premier sponsor -Bare Necessities- will donate $10,000 for more free mammograms.

You'll be helping to save someone's mother, daughter, sister and friend. So please join me in the spreading the word about this cause in the blogging community.

I know everyone has a lot of tags piling up, but I hope that the following people can post this one up ASAP. We only have a little over 3 weeks to reach 8 million clicks

Pink Penguin: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I’ve been tagged by Marzie on her post, Pass the Pink Penguin in conjunction with the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month of October. According to Marzie, below are several tips on how women can avoid breast cancer and remain healthy.

• Maintain a positive mental attitude
• Do aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week
• Practice breathwork and deepening body-awareness such as yoga
• Express your feelings to keep your energy flowing
• Ensure healthy eating habits and complement your food intake with the right supplements
• Avoid toxicity

How you can help raise awareness on breast cancer:-

1. Spread the word. Announce the event on your blog. You could write a blog post (like this), or a little note about it. Whatever you choose to do, just go ahead and tell your readers about it.

2. Go pink. Modify your theme if you know how to, or get yourself a pretty pink theme. If you run a website, turn your website pink. But if you don’t like pink, you could still participate by putting up a badge on your sidebar.

3. Design badges and banners. Design a couple of “Pink for October” badges or banners for other participants to use (for free) and to publicize the event. Some of the existing badges and banners can be downloaded from the Official Pink for October Site.

4. Design blog themes. There are a lot of bloggers who can’t even do simple designing, so if you are good at it, perhaps you could design and release a few pink themes? So, I am hoping that whoever happens to read my post, please do something to spread the awareness. It only takes a moment of our time.

In doing my part, here's a post i've written on National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October! I would like to encourage all my readers to click on this site daily to help fund free mammograms and post a similar post like this to help raise awareness.

Thank you! :)

Additional Note - added on 24/Oct 2007: Emila has created this cute penguin in conjuntion with Breast Cancer Awareness month!
