Lok Lok: Steamboat

We had a Lok Lok feast at mart's house yesterday night. We had prepared the raw ingredients in sticks. It took us about 2 hours to had all the raw food poked. As you can see, it's quite alot of food for 10 persons. When we wanted to eat, we just dumped in the sticks of our preferred raw ingredients into the pot.

What's the difference with the normal steamboat? I would say, it is hassle-free (during eating) and more enjoyable. With the sticks, we can recognize which food we dumped into the pot first. Then it's easier to determine which is cooked and which is not yet.

SuperBowl

Hi all, I've found another superb game. Even tho' it doesn't fit well into this post size, it can still be played. Enjoy!

Instruction to play:

  • Throw the ball when you see "GO" sign.
  • In order to throw the ball, push the "GO" button. Keep it pressed until the yellow field at the aiming picture go white.
  • The closer the yellow field you hit, the more you score.

An Enjoyable Friday Night

Before going out at 7.30pm, I've boiled a soup for my mom. It's a very simple vegetables soup.

Vegetables Soup
Ingredients:
1 corn (break into 3 parts)
3-4 stalks of celery
1/4 cabbage
1/2 carrot
2 tomatoes

  1. Cut the above vegetables into small pieces. Dump everything inside a pot with 4 bowls water. Let it boiled and then simmer for another 45 minutes under low heat.
Serving: 1 person
Note: Because I'm cooking for my mom, I did not put any salt and potatoes. You may add these two in. However, even tho' no sodium was added, the soup is tasty enough on its own. Thanks to the corns for its sweetness; tomatoes for its sourness; and celery for its fragrant smell.
Darling, Sorchai & I went to Summit USJ. We wanted to have a personal look at the Sony Cybershot T100 camera. Had physical touch with the camera and we loved it! We are so attracted to its 3inch wide screen. And of course the other functions were not bad. We've been browsing the internet for this camera and its review were either 4 or 5 stars. "Yes! This is gonna be our second gadget shared". Will let you know once we've purchase this camera but don't think it'll be so soon, maybe end of next month. Too many commitments.

Later, as we walked pass the ground floor promotion area which men's clothes and shoes on sales, Sorchai (like a lady), had his scanning around the place. He was interested in this particular leather shoe and even had it tried on. He was undetermined whether to to buy that shoe anot and kept asking for our opinions. Before deciding, Tat (my friend), joined us. And again Sorchai asked for our opinions. At last, he did not buy. He said he wanted to save more money to shop at Hong Kong. (He's going Hong Kong in June this year).

Then we went to play pool. It was really fun. Me and darling on one team and they two on the other. It's been a long time since we last played pool. When four of us together, it is always filled with laugther and nonsense jokes. So was last night. We played 11 rounds, and me & darling won by 6-5. Great competitors!

After that, we went to McDonald's, Taipan for dinner. It was around 10.30pm. Ah Oh joined us for chit chatting. Before heading home, we stopped by the "Fatman Steambot" (Lok Lok), and had our so-called supper.

High Blood Pressure

My mom was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Her reading is 180/90. Doctor said this is seriously high. And asked us not to treat it lightly. Actual words he said, "Don't play play!". Normal reading should be less than 130/85. There is no symptom for this sickess. That's why is is often termed as "The Silent Killer". High blood pressure damages your blood vessels. This in turn raises your risk of stroke, kidney failure, heart disease and heart attack.

However, if you have diagnosed with this sickness (like my mom), there are ways to treat or lower down your blood pressure:-

  1. Exersice regularly,
  2. Eat a healthy diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables (Doctor advised mom to take lots of starfruits & celery),
  3. Consume less sodium (salt) & fat
  4. Avoid dairy products
  5. Free yourself from stress (Stress may affect blood pressure)
  6. Quit smoking / Limit alcohol intakes
  7. Medication (only under doctor's prescription)

I hope by following the above, my mom will be able to lower down her blood pressure and maintain it at a healthy level.

So, to you all who's reading, please take care of your loved ones. Go for medical check-up at least once a year. Early detection is better than nothing.

Classic Game: Pacman

I've found this classic game in widgetbox.com. I am sure all of us are familiar with this and it has been a long time since we played this, right! So, here's your chance. Enjoy!

Lost of Our First Gadget Shared

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we've lost our first gadget shared; Olympus AZ-1 camera. She was our precious. Have bought her from Foto-zoom, Summit in year 2004.

When I first know about her lost, I was very upset and I nearly cried when I passed the message to my darling. He too, like me, was very upset. *sigh* We were very heart ached. However, being optimistic as we usually are, we've over the gloomy clouds.
There is a chinese saying; "Kau geh mm hui, san geh dim lei" (old ones don't go, new ones how to come). Thus, we are planning to buy a new camera; Sony Cyber-Shot DSC T-100, but we are struggling to get $$$. Anyone want to donate? Please drop me a comment. Any other recommendation and please specify its pro & con.

AppleGuava

Aunt Janet bought this fruit from Petaling Street last weekend. The seller claimed that this is a AppleGuava. It tasted like guava, & green colour "skin" was sweet. Do you think there is such fruit?

Best BBQ Chicken Wings : Kai Low

Located along Jalan 5/62A of Bandar Manjalara, Kepong (opposite Restaurant Ketam Steamboat ~ something like that), this uncle (known as "Kai Low") sells the Best BBQ Chicken Wings I've ever tasted. (I asked him to post for a shot.. hehe..) Last 2 years ago, the chicken wings was at RM1.80/pc. That day I went, it's at RM2.00/pc. And the uncle told me that he's going to retire soon. So, if you have not try this before, suggest that you hurried your ass there.

Fried Meehoon with Eggs

During one of the weekdays last week, I've decided to cook fried rice for dinner. After work around 7.15pm, I went home, empty handed, thinking that i have all the ingredients at home. So, I reached home & went straight to the kitchen & open the fridge,"eggs (checked), cabbage (checked), bombay onion (checked), chilli padi (checked)".. okay, these would be fine; & i closed the fridge. "okay, need to cook rice first,"I thought to myself & took up the rice bucket. It was almost empty. The rice was only enough to eat for a few meals, my niece's measurement. "oh my God! What I am going to cook?" I ransacked my kitchens' cabinets for something to cook and lastly i found 1/2 packet of meehoon.

Fried Meehoon with Eggs

Ingredients:
1/2 packet meehoon (soaked till soft)
3 tbsp dried shrimp (soaked & chopped till mash up)
4 chilli padi (very finely chopped)
2 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
1/2 bombay onion (sliced)
1 carrot (shredded)
1/2 cabbage (shredded)
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp soy sauce

For the eggs:
1/2 bombay onion
4 eggs

1. Beat eggs in a bowl. Add salt & pepper to taste. Saute onions in a wok til fragrant. Pour in the beaten eggs and fried till golden. (I've fried the eggs in one piece. If you are able to do it, you may. If not, you can just scramble it) Slide the fried egg into a plate.

2. Heat oil in wok. Saute garlic, onion, dried shrimp & chili padi till fragrant. Add in salt & stir.

3. Add in the carrot & cabbage & stir within the ingredients so that the salt get evenly to the vegetables. (The ingredients will get a little bit soggy, but don't worry. The meehoon will act as a sponge later)

4. Add in the meehoon and soy sauce. Stir fry till dry. Serve in a plate. Add in the piece of egg on top before serving to your guinea pigs..

Truth Unveiled

Why do I always use the pink butterfly at beginning of my title? Have you ever wonder? Or do you think that it's just a deco. Well, let me have the truth unveiled. It's actually my signature: CHC. Can you see the "C" on the left wing, "H" on the body and an inverted "C" on the right wing? :) Now, u will see it. :)

Actually, i've designed this signature when i was studying fashion in 2000-2002. I thought I could use this as my fashion label. Well, things got out of my hand after my graduation and I landed in this "out of my mind" line.
I've no regrets to not being able to work as a fashion designer and be known. I believe that this path I am walking is a path that God wanted me to walk. And because of this little faith, (some may think I am absurd for believing in God), I've journeyed through thick & thicker obstacles and I am still walking with God. Although the journey may not be smooth, but God promised that He will be with us, always. Again because of this little faith, I find courage & strength to go on my everydays' life.
I understand that some peoples will find it ridiculous for believing in Someone who has died 2000 years ago. What more absurd is that believing that He died on the cross for our sins? "Who asked him to do that? I don't need Him to die for me. I've no sin or whatsoever," people may think this way. I would agree with them if I haven't experience God's love for me and my family. He has been merciful to me and show me His great love & forgiveness. God gives His love freely to those who ask from Him. God forgives if you seek for forgiveness from Him.
Let me conclude my post with a prayer,
"Dear Jesus Christ, Thank you for showing Your Love to me. I pray that whoever read this will ponder upon your teaching and may the Holy Spirit speak to them right now. Lord, I do not know how you will make this happen but I believe in you. Let Your love filled their hearts. Bless the person who is reading this with abundant blessings. Bless his/her family, friends & love ones. Thank you, Lord Jesus. In Jesus most precious & powerful name I prayed, Amen."

A Groovy Hectic Sunday

I woke up early on Sunday morning at 6.30am because I have to fetch my darling back to his home for the Qing Beng Festival. I did not follow him because I've planned to go to the market with my mom to buy chicken feet (I wanted to make stewed chicken feet). I reached home around 7am after fetching my darling. My mom said she needed to sleep for a while more. I waited for her whilst surfing the net. Time passed by and my mom finally woke up at 8.15am. We've to cancel the market trip because by the time we reach market, the chicken feet have all ranaway. Instead we decided to go Giant Hypermarket. While preparing my shopping list, I enjoyed my cup of white coffee sip by sip. It was really relaxing! I planned a scrupmtious sunday dinner: Grill BBQ Chicken with baked mash potatoes & coleslaw and Soya Bean Jelly with longan.

However later on, mom have to discard the plan to go Giant because Chloe girl was here at 10am. Sis will be bringing my mom for hi-tea at 12.45pm. I have to go to Giant alone. With the desire to buy chicken feet and ingredients for dinner, I headed to Giant around 1.15pm. There was no chicken feet avaiable. (Guessed I have to postpone my thought). After about an hour at Giant, I went to fetch darling from his house. We reached home around 2.35pm. I started preparing the dinner right away.

Ingredients (Chicken):
6 pcs chicken (best to use ribs & breast chicken)
1/2 cup mustard
1 cup BBQ sauce

salts

1. Rub salts on the chicken, front & back. Leave for 10 mins. Add in the mustard, BBQ sauce & honey. Combine well. Cover up the chicken with a strecth film in a bowl and keep refrigerated overnight. (I did not keep overnight because of time constraint. It is best to keep overnight for optimum taste)

2. Preheat oven to 180°. Grill chicken for 12-15 mins one side & the other side 5 mins.

Ingredients (B.mashed potatoes):
3 russet potatoes
1/2 cup milk
2 cm width butter
6 slices of cheddar cheese

2. In another small pot, bring milk to boil. Add in butter. Off heat

3. Pour the milk mixture into the mashed potatoes and combine well. Scoop & arrange the mashed potatoes into a tray leaving about 5cm thickness. Arrange slices of cheddar chesse on top & baked till cheese turn brown.

Ingredients (coleslaw):
1/2 ball of cabbage (shredded)
1 carrot(shredded)
1/2 onion (very finely chopped)
1 tsp white vinegar
2 tsp oil
3 tbsp mayonaise (full tablespoon)
3 tbsp sugar
A pinch of salt to taste

1. Add in all the ingredients together in a large bowl & mix well. Refregirated until time to serve.

Easter Vigil & Easter Sunday

Darling, Aunt Janet, Steph & I went to Easter Vigil mass at the new church in Puchong Perdana. The mass started at 10pm (07/Apr) & ended at 1am (08/Apr). The look of the new church is nice and the size is moderate (i think can accomodate approx. 400pax). The surrounding and priest was good. At least,I don't feel uneasy like I felt at Divine Mercy. This photo was taken by darling. At first we were sitting at the corner but we shifted to upstair for a better air-ventilation & view. Overall, this new church is good, the only thing we've been complaining whole night is there isn't any air-cond in the building.

Saturday Afternoon

Me and darling went to Summit USJ this (Saturday) afternoon. We had our lunch at Shakey's. They had this new menu called Stromboli Pizza. A kind of turnover with pizza stuffing. We tried their Stromboli Pizza Deal : 2 soft drinks, 2 soups, 1 cinnastix, 1 banana kaya bread and 1 stromboli pizza (hawaiian delight or beef/chicken pepperoni) @ RM24.04 (inclds 5% GST & 10% ST).

For the stromboli, there's no differences in terms of taste because the filling is the same as the pizza filling. But the biting texture is different because the pastry skin have been baked and thus it is crispier than normal pizza dough. I would try again next time but not as ala carte. It will be not worth buying and not able to fullfill your appetite on its own.

Have you ever tried the Domino's banana kaya bread. It was delicious. So does Shakey's banana kaya bread. The differences between Domino's and Shakey's are their dough and kaya. Domino's have a thinner layer of dough and its kaya is sweeter. Shakey's have the complementary antonyms and its kaya is less sweet. I would say I like both of it.

Before headed home, we bought some dvds and pearl milk tea & popcorn. We watched Bridge to Terabithia starring Josh Hutcherson and Anna Sophia Robb. It's about two fifth graders became friends and together they create a magical kingdom of their own.

Blessed Friday

Today is Good Friday. Darling & I sneaked out from work to attend the 1pm mass at Divine Mercy, Glenmarie with darling's mom & dad, and Steph. Even thought it was a working day, the church was packed with peoples, some of them were like us: sneaking out from work. Many have to parked their cars along the road and some even double-parked, and us being half an hour early have to parked along the roadside. As we were attending the mass, there were notices which they projected up on the screen to asked people to re-park their car. "Double parked cars, please remove immediately. The authorities are here (COPS & MBSA)." "xxx 1234 Please re park asap. You are blocking a trailer" "aaa 6789 Please re park immediately. A trailer is going to smash it." We both felt uneasy during the whole mass & communion at Divine Mercy. Maybe one of the reason is because we are not a regular attendee in that church, thus not familiar with the priest & surrounding. After the mass, we went back to office.

At night, had dinner at Sin Kong Restaurant, Taipan with darling's immediate family and his Aunt & Uncle from Australia. We went back to darling's home after dinner. Darling suggested that we watch movie at home, and i thought, "Well, since i had the free time now. Let me check with shn whether she's able to make it yumcha anot?" I smsed her, then waited 10 mins for her reply. When there's no reply, i called her mobile, it went straight to her voicemail. I called her home, and her mom told me she's not home yet. And i thought,"I guessed she's still at work." And with that, i decided to watch movie with darling, Melvin & Steph.

We watched Prestige starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. It is about two rival magicians trying to find out about each others secret.
Rating: I would give 31/2 out of 5.

Sh'n called about 30mins later, she said she's not free. *sigh* I am beginning to wonder will we ever get to meet up once a month. I'll be quite busy next week, and I don't think I'll be able to meet up with her and it is sad to think that two good friends are so busy with own life that a meet up once a month could turn out to be like having an appointment with CEO of some big corporate. Shame on both of us!

Bravenet

I was browsing the net for free online photo albumame across this website called Bravenet, which offers a lot of free web tools and one of it is photo album. I registered at the thought of getting the online photo album, but discarded the thought once I've found out about the layout. It is not because it was not nice, just that what I've expected is much more than that. I wanted something like the friendster photo album's layout. Anyway, out of boredom i explored its free web tools, and found a lot of interesting tools which i've stuffed into my blog. Check it out: New Poll, Hit Counter, Today in History and Tell a Friend to Visit.
Do you know of any reliable FREE online photo album?

Actually, was supposed to meet up with my friend tonight but she had to stay back at last minute. We can't seem to fit into each others schedule. I think this is the 6th time we have to cancelled our yumcha. It is always either me or she can't make it. Is God testing our sincerity? :P *sigh* Well, hope we can meet up soon cause we really have alot to catch up!

Unexpected Dinner: Tomyam

We finished work at 7pm. And darling suddenly have the crave for tomyam soup. Hence, we dropped by at F&G (my neighbourhood supermarket) to buy the ingredients on our way home. Reached home around 7.30pm, I quickly start my cooking.

Ingredients:
2 big onions
3 pieces ginger
3 stalks lemon grass, cut into 2inch long, bruised
10-12 chili padi, bruised
6-7 kaffir leaves, cut half
2 small packets tomyam paste (Adabi)
4 tbsp thai chili paste
2 tbsp lemon juice (limau kasturi)
3 tomatoes
3litres water
Other ingredients: (u can add anything u like)
1 chicken fillet, cut cubes
4 squids, cut small pieces
1 can asparagus mushroom, cut half
1 can button mushroom, cut into small pieces
1 tube japanese taufu
  1. Saute onions, ginger & chili padi until fragrant. Add in water, followed by lemon grass and tomyam paste.
  2. Boil for about 15 mins under medium heat, then add in the tomatoes, and other ingredients except the squids.
  3. Boil for another 15 mins, then add in the squids, lemon juice and kaffir leaves.
  4. Let it boil for another 20mins, add in salt to taste and your tomyam soup is ready to serve.

I've used yee meen for the noodle. Even though it will more or less influence the taste of tomyam, but it is still all right. I've also added taugeh for the extra bite.

Serving: 5 bowls

Blessed 6th Anniversary

Yesterday was our 6th anniversary. He were out to get the car washed about 11am, then came back around 2.30pm and surprised me with a bouquet of pink roses. It's beautiful. But his thought and effort to do the buying had captured my heart more.

We had our anniversary dinner at TGIF, Subang Parade. Initially, we planned to have our dinner at Eden but our appetite at that moment preferred TGIF more. We started off with an appetizer: Bruschetta - garlic bread taste alike with additional salty and sweet tastes from the tomatoes and chocolate syrup (Yummy!!), and French Onion Soup (no photo, forgotten to take) - onion soup covered with bread and topped with melted mozzarella's cheese (Yummy!!). Had our main course: Smothered Chicken - grilled chicken breast with mushroom sauce topped with melted mozzarella's cheese comes with mash potatoes and broccoli (the mash potatoes was delicious, the chicken was moderate only), and dessert: Chocolate Malt Cake (no photo) - haven't try yet. We had to take away our dessert due to the limitation of our stomach.
Oh yeah, we had a glass of Ultimate Margarita as well. Every of our anniversary dinners will have at least a glass of cocktail. At the end of our dinner, his face was as red as the baboon's ass even though he only had a quarter of the glass. The rushing blood through his veins makes him sweat too. For people who doesn't know him, will have the first impression that he cannot drink. Well, i knew him and it's all right for me to see him like this.

note: Meaning of Light Pink Roses: Light pink roses express a sense of fun, happiness, and whimsy. (Find out more about the meaning of roses and its colors)
